This past summer, two venturers from the Blue Ridge Mountain Councils Venturing Officers Association got the chance to experience the 2023 National Scouting Jamboree, held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. The 2023 National Jamboree was held from July 19-28, and offered participants a chance to gather with thousands of scouts, to experience the fun, fellowship, and the adventure of scouting.
BRMC VOA President, Alexis Etzler, got to experience the jamboree from a staff perspective! Alexis got the chance to work the D3 Merch at Tillerson, working as the head youth of the Chill Zone. Describing it as a chance to “meet and work with new people”, and finding it the best part of staffing. Along with hanging out with friends during free time, she also explained: “...I got to see a lot of cool stuff, including LGBT tents, people of color tents, and the … inclusivity tents. I am a big advocate for special needs and my favorite one was the tent for the special needs committee and their awesome challenge for the patches. During my day off, I completed the challenge alongside Territory 15 VOA President Aidan Wells, who did it with me.” Not only did Alexis get to staff the fun and fellowship, but BRMC VOA Vice President of Communications Jacob O’Fiel staffed as part of the Order of the Arrow’s Operation Arrow Service Corps. He explained: “I was able to help support National Jamboree participants and staff all throughout the camp. From being the first faces participants saw on their shuttles down to camp, to supporting the friendly competition at the Titan Challenge, to even acting as security for one of the breathtaking Apex Shows, my experience was definitely the opportunity of a lifetime!” Want more fun experiences just like this?
